Graduate Student (Ph.D)
Dr. Jaimie West
Jaimie joined the Whitman lab in 2018, where she explored microbial ecology in soils under disturbance (e.g., soil mixing, bioturbation, tillage) using next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics. She originally matriculated at UW Soils in 2010 to pursue a joint Master’s degree in Soil Science and Environment & Resources (Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies). Upon completion, she worked as a Research Specialist in Dr. Matt Ruark’s Agroecosystems Lab (Dept of Soil Science and UW-Extension) implementing agronomic cover crop research trials and assessing nutrient use efficiency in vegetable and row crop production. An East Coast native, she received her BS in Environmental Science at Duke University.
